Latoya LeGrand is a dedicated advocate and community leader from Southeast Queens with over 20 years of experience. A graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, her education has equipped her with a deep understanding of social justice and public safety. Growing up in foster care and NYCHA housing, Latoya’s journey has been shaped by overcoming adversity and a passion for empowering underserved communities.

She is the founder of Projects II Projects Inc., where she leads innovative programs like the iDrone Project and mobile library initiatives to foster youth development and literacy. Latoya also supports mothers in shelters and works with families to navigate education services.

 

Currently serving in the New York State Assembly and as the Education Committee Chairperson for Community Board 12Q, she champions housing equity, youth empowerment, and education. Latoya is running for NYC Council to bring tangible, positive change to District 28.

Housing & Public Housing Reform

  • Increase NYCHA funding for repairs and living conditions.

  • Strengthen tenant protections and management oversight.

Education and Youth Empowerment

  • Implement STEM and vocational training 

  • Expand after-school and mentorship programs

  • Improve community policing and law enforcement relations.

  • Expand mental health and substance abuse services.

Workforce Development & Economic Equity

  • Support youth and minority entrepreneurship.

Women & Family Support

  • Expand funding for domestic violence shelters and family support programs.

  • Advocate for universal childcare subsidies.

Sanitation

  • Collaborate on infrastructure improvements and flood prevention.

Seniors

  • Increased funding for senior centers
